Tummy Tuck

Weight changes and aging processes lead to fat distribution changes in both male and female bodies. Generally this change leads to an increase of fatty tissue around the abdomen.

Following rapid abdominal growth periods such as pregnancy or quick weight gaining, a laxity can occur in the abdominal wall, and it can be accompanied by skin sagging and stretch-marks. These are irreversible deformities which can never be resolved spontaneously. In these cases, the excess abdominal skin and soft tissue should be removed and the strong structure of the abdominal wall should be restored.

All of these problems can be solved at once with a detailed re-tailoring procedure called “abdominoplasty” or “tummy-tuck”. In an abdominoplasty, the irregular and low-quality skin between the belly button and the genitalia is removed together with the underlying fat. The abdominal musculature is revised, and the upper abdominal skin&fat is stretched downwards to close the defect created by the removed skin. This operation is done under general anesthesia, and lasts for 2 to 3 hours. Usually, the patient is discharged the next day, and returns to daily activities within 7 to 10 days. This operation generally ends up with a scar called “the bikini incision scar”, that can easily be hidden with underwear only. The color of this scar turns to normal skin color after a year, and is minimally visible. Abdominoplasty can be combined with liposuction for the waist, hips or thighs.

An abdominal corset is used for 3 weeks after the operation.
